Over the past few years, we’ve seen some incredible talent come out of Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy’s Dance With Me Studios (DWM), but that top-notch talent isn’t just on Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance, it’s also ingrained in each of DWM’s studios. Aside from hiring champion dancers, DWM looks to put instructors in its studios that have a passion for teaching and an openness to learning new styles of dance. Actually, a lot of DWM’s instructors come to the studio transitioning out of their own full-time competitive careers to devote their time and talents to molding the next wave of competitive dancers.

When I saw DWM’s production “Dancing in the Crowd” in January, I was exposed to the plethora of talent that lies in DWM’s studios and it made me want to learn how some of the instructors from different countries found their way to teach in New York City. Recently, I was able to speak to DWM about two of its teachers, Aliaksandr (Sasha) Broukin and Jelena Cerovic. Broukin and Cerovic both earned Top Teacher awards in 2018, which is based on average lesson counts and students’ success rates in competitions, team matches, and company-wide performances.

Before Broukin landed at DWM’s Stamford studio in 2016, he had a very successful competitive dance career in Belarus and Russia. From 2012-2014, he won five championships with his competitive partner Hanna Broukina including : 1st place “Minskaya Osen 2012” Republic Championship in Minsk, Belarus; 1st place 2013 “Zimnyaya Fantazia” National Championship in Mogilev, Belarus; 1st place “Crystal Cup” 2013 National Championship in Minsk, Belarus; 1st place “Belaya Rus 2013” XVIII Championship in Minsk, Belarus; and 1st place “Dynamo Grand Prix 2014” World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Throughout his time at DWM, Broukin has been very involved in training students for DWM Nationals, team matches and showcases, as well as Dancesport Championships. In 2018, his team took first place in the summer team match and Stamford was named the top DWM studio. Aside from teaching, Broukin performed as a lead dancer and co-choreographer in several DWM shows including a Pro/Am show and two DWM showcases. Most recently, he was cast as a lead dancer in DWM’s “Dancing in the Crowd,” which also featured two-time Dancing with the Stars and World Latin Champion Valentin Chmerkovskiy.

Three-time Serbian National Champion Cerovic came to DWM’s Soho studio two years ago after wrapping up an accomplished professional career in Serbia and Italy. Highlights of her career include representing Serbia in the International Youth Festival of Classical Theatre and being invited by the Italian National Olympic Committee to choreograph and perform at an Olympic event in Rome in 2014. She also was featured on Serbia’s most popular live TV show “Zikina Sarenica” as a choreographer and performer.

Cerovic is one of DWM’s most dedicated teachers, coaching students of various ages and levels. In addition to teaching, she also co-wrote, and co-choreographed a Pro/Am DWM show in 2017 with Henry Byalikov from Dancing with the Stars, and was a featured dancer in many DWM showcases, one of which was choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance alum and Olympic choreographer Serge Onik. Just like Broukin, Cerovic was cast in DWM’s latest production, “Dancing in the Crowd,” as a lead dancer and even performed a duet with her partner Milos Jadzic.

This is just a small representation of the talent that DWM has packed into its 14 studios across the United States. After getting to know more about DWM, I can say without a doubt that its priority is to provide top-notch dance education to people of all backgrounds and all levels. By seeking out the top competitive dancers and teachers from all over the world, DWM in turn gives its students the best possible environment to develop into skilled, competitive dancers.
