While some dance fans know Michael Dameski’s body of work very well, it’s hard to believe mainstream America does not. His impressive résumé should be enough to make him a household name, but that has eluded him — until now.

Dameski’s appearance on Tuesday night’s World of Dance should put him on the dance map here in the U.S. He commanded the stage and showed off his gorgeous technique. Derek Hough could be heard enthusiastically shouting, “Oh, oh, oh, I have chills.”

Anyone who has followed his career knows that his appearance on World of Dance is no fluke. His talent was recognized at an early age when he appeared in the Australian company, the Broadway company and the second national tour of Billy Elliot. He played the title role from 2008-2011 and it’s one of the most demanding roles for a young performer in the theatre world.

Here’s his 2010 performance of “Electricity” in the Broadway company of Billy Elliot. (Yes, it’s a bootleg video.)

He landed on dance fans’ radar in 2014 when he won the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel Lythgoe was so impressed with his talent that he brought him to the U.S. to perform on Season 11.

He’s since gone on to the first national tour of Newsies and done a stint with Travis Wall’s Shaping Sound. However, name recognition beyond the dance community has eluded him so far.

Is World of Dance the game changer he needs? Will he go the distance on World of Dance? We will just have to wait and see.

Michael Dameski will appear on ‘To The Pointe’ on Aug. 7.
