Season 15 of So You Think You Can Dance has been officially announced, and the first set of auditions is happening this weekend in New York City. So, it’s time for a little round-up of all of the information we have so far, thanks to our recent interview with Nigel Lythgoe at the Los Angeles Ballet Gala.
We can’t wait for another summer filled with dance, new contestants and some of our favorite Emmy-winning choreographers. Cue music!
1. LA auditions: We know the NY auditions are happening this weekend, but the Los Angeles audition dates have not officially been announced. The good news is that they will likely happen later in March, according to judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.
2. Format change: This one has been confusing fans a bit. Yes, the Top 20 is back with contestants in the 18-30-age range, but it’s not exactly the old format. There is a twist that has yet to be announced. Read Nigel’s words carefully.
“We got it back in a certain way. We have less hours than we had,” he explained. “We have to work the format into the time period that we have — some shows are one hour, some shows are two hours. You have to mold for what you are given.”
According to FOX, this twist will be announced soon.
3. All-Stars: We know all three judges are back — Nigel, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens and so are the All-Stars. However, we go back to the days where the judges select the finalists for the live shows. That means we won’t see All-Stars until later in the season. This also opens up the opportunity for new All-Stars and for a greater variety of SYTYCD alumni to be seen during the season.
